- Who Experiences ASMR
ASMR refers to pleasant tingling sensations typically starting on the scalp and moving down the spine and through the body in response to specific stimuli. Often described as brain tingles or brain massage, ASMR creates deeply relaxing states for those who experience it. Scientific research suggests ASMR involves activation of reward and social bonding brain regions. Not everyone experiences ASMR - estimates suggest perhaps half the population responds to triggers, though intensity varies significantly. Those who experience ASMR often discovered it in childhood through specific situations like haircuts or watching someone draw. The phenomenon remained nameless until 2010 when online communities began identifying shared experiences.
